About The Nerdsomniac

Hi, I’m Kenneth. That’s me, and I want to be a board game developer/illustrator.

Here’s a brief run-down of my life. At the age of 4, my mother bought me a set of children encyclopedias which I devoured, metaphorically. At that time, I wanted to know things, I wanted to learn. I wanted to be an anthropologist, or historian, despite not knowing the words.

At the age of 6, I was enrolled to Taekwondo classes and Electone classes. I dropped Taekwondo after my Green belt, but kept a budding interest in martial arts that would bring me to my WWF and MMA fandom through my adolescence.

At the age of 10, I joined the school choir. Playing the Electone gave me basic music theory, but singing was a new skill that involved more than my fingers. I wanted to sing, and I learned faster and sang better than the other kids, posted into Soprano 1 for my tone and range. In secondary school, I was kicked off choir auditions for singing purely in falsetto. I pleaded the teachers outside school hours for a chance, and proceeded to sing tenor to bass for the next 4 years, becoming section leader and committee member.

At the age of 12, I auditioned and made it into my school musical as the lead, and built a passion for Acting, Drama and the Arts. I joined the musical director as a Front of House staff for her various plays on my own time. This went on for the next few years.

At the same time, I developed an active interest in English Literature. My school did not offer this course for O levels, and I had special permission from the Principal and my literature teacher to take the subject. I wanted to be a literature professor.

At the age of 16, my singing continued through my tertiary studies and I became the Chairman of my Polytechnic choir. Moving on, by a stroke of pure luck, I joined the Music and Drama Company (MDC) during my National Service at 19 years of age, and sang there for the next 3 years.

When my National Service ended, I had no official infrastructure to sing in, so my close friends and I decided to form the A Capella group NoeXit for the next few years to come.

As a young boy, I’ve been enraptured by games. From the Sega Saturn, the first console my dad bought, playing virtual cop with the gun controller on the original Playstation, to my grandma’s original Gameboy, games have been a huge part of my life. The internet brought a whole dimension of games I’ve never experienced before; connecting with the world through competitive games and MMORPGS was amazing. My first Xbox led me down the rabbit hole of 200 over console games played through the decade and a half, creating my own podcast and gaming channel, and having a regular board game/D&D group with my close friends. I’ve just loved the escapism games gave me in my life. I’ve learnt many skills and life lessons through the eyes of the characters I play. I’ve become a better person from the games I play, and I want to share that with the world.
